Tour Down Under 2020
Full route announced the other day!
Sunday 19th January - Schwalbe Classic: Adelaide (51km)
Tuesday 21th January - Stage 1: Tanunda - Tanunda (150km)
Wednesday 22nd January - Stage 2: Woodside - Stirling (135.8km)
Thursday 23rd January - Stage 3: Unley - Paracombe (131km)
Friday 24th January - Stage 4: Norwood - Murray Bridge (152.8km)
Saturday 25th January - Stage 5: Glenelg - Victor Harbor (149.1km)
Sunday 26th January - Stage 6: McLaren Vale - Willunga Hill (151.5km)
New course for the Classic. I don't like it. From a spectator POV i think it'll suck.
Stage 1 - is a new route. Similar in some respects to the Mclaren Vale-Willunga stage with a repeated loop of the region. I'm surprised that they don't do a loop up Menglers Hill while they're there.
Stage 2 - brings a finish back to the ever popular Stirling, and a new loop around Woodside.
Stage 3 - the end loops are confusing on paper, but i think i worked it out after reading the text final climb up Torrens Hill road to the finish line will be a unpleasant end to the day.
Stage 4 - is a new route and heads to Murray Bridge (maybe the first time there?) via Mannum which has hosted a stage start previously. Looks like an interesting route; Lumpy in the first half, not so much in the latter part. The last 30km might be nice if it's a warm day, since it's close to the Murray River. This is also the route for the Challenge Tour, which moves back to Friday
Stage 5 - Tried and tested route out to Victor Harbor.
Stage 6 - Keeping the final stage at McLaren Vale-Willunga Hill. It was very successful this year, so i think they're on a winner

Re: Tour Down Under 2020
Forgot to mention that Fabian Cancellara aka Spartacus will be in Adelaide for next years TDU. Suspect this is a popular choice.
News just announced is that the TDU now has a new Race Director in Stuart O'Grady. It will be interesting to see where he takes it.

I'll be in Adelaide the week before for the Asian Le Mans at the Bend. Would be good to see some ARSE whilst I'm there.

I still think Norbs should attend this year to defend them

Im glad you're excited.
I will need Hutchy to organise an Aston Martin for me to get around in.
Is going to be a steep curve trying to get fit. 95kgs. 198kms all last month and the elbow is still not close to 100%. That said, 230kms this week.

maybe a quick heads-up that there's been an increase in bike thefts within the CBD and surrounding suburbs recently. So keep your bike in sight and/or secure.

JFC Carl, I didnt realise you were sub 18 minutes. Fucker!
I have serious doubts about improving my time when i come down. A few shitty months, and my elbow is still giving me grief at times. Getting old is frustrating.

Re: Tour Down Under 2020
Ha! that was about 2 years ago though. I don't think I can get near that currently. I can probably do a sub-20 pretty reliably right now; though I haven't really pushed myself up there for a while. I think my power output is better, but I've also put on a few kg too.norbs wrote:JFC Carl, I didnt realise you were sub 18 minutes. Fucker!
Don't stress about the times then. Come and enjoy a few rides in the hills. It'll be awesome Have you got a plan, or just going to wing it each day? I think I'll try to do what I've been doing the last few years and riding out to each stage. I've quite enjoyed that. Daily distance/end points yet to be determined as I still need to work out what days V will be riding since they'll tend to be shorter days and/or staying closer to the CBD.norbs wrote:I have serious doubts about improving my time when i come down.
