Re: Tour Down Under 2017
Hopefully it will come in to Victor Harbor again. My daughters loved watching the riders blast by last time.

Re: Tour Down Under 2017
Race route announced! probably looks a little more like some of the earlier race routes, with a couple of climbs, but not overdoing it. Bupa challenge tour looks like a nice route, though is right on my doorstep, so undecided if i'll do it. As per Montey's request, Victor Harbor is a stage finish on the Wednesday.

BUPA Challenge is a loop, so it might be a bit more friendly.
If I do come down, i think I will concentrate on riding and not faffing about with a media pass.

Re: Tour Down Under 2017
pretty damn close to a loop as makes no difference!, and the start and finish are within reasonable riding distances. The problem is that they're pretty much all roads than I ride semi regularly anyway, with the exception of Checker Hill. Checker hill is a bitch. So we'll be having a think about what we're doing.norbs wrote:BUPA Challenge is a loop, so it might be a bit more friendly.

Our other option is heading out to each stage with our point and click cameras rather than racing around like crazy. In the past, the down side to doing the Challenge tour for us is that we tend not to ride much ourselves during the week so that we have enough in the tank for the big ride.

Re: Tour Down Under 2017
Am loving that new Day 4 route... it looks like they do about 4-5 laps in and out of Victor Harbor; so they go past our viewing spot 4 or 5 times.

I had a chat to Miss V; given you said you were unsure about heading down this way due to budget constraints, if you need a place to stay then we can put you up at Chateau CLP again Money saved!

Re: Tour Down Under 2017
A few more points of interest about the route.
Stage 1 - from the stage start in Unley, Race neutral runs straight through the centre of the CBD. interesting choice. Might get a few people out to watch around lunchtime
Stage 2 - uses Norton Summit Road again, though this time they descend the hill. This happens fairly late in the stage, so they'll be entering the suburbs early/mid afternoon before heading back up Gorge Road towards the finish.
Stage 3 - heads up the Southern Expressway. 4km km hill at the start of that could be a good springboard for a break
I might have to pour over some of these maps to work out good vantage points for each stage

RLC is definitely on again. Which reminds me that I have to register for it!
Suspect I won't be doing the Bupa Challenge tour however. V and I might take the time to ride out to stages and try to follow the race that way.

Country Comfort on South terrace.
Let me know the details and i will sign up too.
My plan is to do a lot more riding than usual. Maybe a 100km ride every 2nd day that I am there. No BUPA challenge though, it is too expensive.
Will do some planning Carl, and you might need to give me a hand.
