Patch X Released

Post by Duke »

Scawen had been indicating that we has been trying to release patch X this weekend or the next at the latest but it looks as though it had been delayed until at least the start of June. For a number of reasons stated below.
Scawen (on LFS Forum) wrote:I was originally intending to get X out on Friday 25th.

But we want it to be on the new servers, due to the increased bandwidth due to website visiting and downloading as always with a new patch and the new skins system must be well supported, but Victor's having some issues at the moment with the new boxes, hopefully to be resolved in a reasonable amount of time. Not only that but some of the remaining bugs I've been solving, like SPR OOS bugs and other weird bugs, sometimes take nearly a day each to figure out and fix - quite boring work but it's got to be done.

So the current plan is for patch X to be released on 1st of June, that will give me enough time to get it properly stable and for the community to give it a good test and hopefully our website will be fully moved by then and running on our new hardware.
Pitty about the delay but I would rather a relative bug free release than a rushed "buggy" one, so lets hope it is not too far around the corner for patch X
by the way I thought the last time they moved servers that they said that they didn't think they would need to ever do it again. I suppose that is the nature of the beast when you make changes that can effect the bandwidth requirements.

Another week turns into weeks, which soon turns to a months, years...

This patch will have updated physics and graphics (GTR interiors, new South City, etc) too won't it?

Nope :( Well I guess the next patch "X" will just be an official version of what we see in the test patches now. Patch Y is months away which is supposed to have those updates. God knows when we'll see more tracks :faint:

In Patch Y South City is getting an update, like Blackwood did in S2.

Funny the heading needs changing but Scawen has made another announcement about Patch X.
Scawen from LFS Forum wrote:edited, the plan is to release Patch X tomorrow, and if all goes well, it should be released tomorrow.
If Test Patch W47 testing goes ok I'll make another main section thread to get more people testing this final day...
and this on another thread topic.
Having worked on important multiplayer issues for one more week, and doing heavy testing every evening, it really looks like we have a very good stable version now, so Patch X is on target for a Friday release - that is, tomorrow!

Last week there were some disconnection issues and problems with the old voting systems, which have now been replaced along with several other improvements.
Lets hope no further bugs are found and we will all be enjoying Patch X by the end of this weekend & Scawen can take a breather from all this test patch releases.

Damn you Flinty, gave me a heart attack when I re-read that thread title.

Oh well, I can wait.. hell, waited this long, I can wait a few more days. Looking forward to some testing of X this weekend, MPR server will get patched the moment patch X is released, so you'll know where to find all the MPR members :D

It's currently W47 and you can find it here : http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=25446

If you have any time for a bit of testing today or this evening, please do go online and join the bug testing hosts for a race.
Is it Friday in Pom land yet??

Tick, Tock, not far away now, Scawen has started work for the day, giggidy!
Scawen from LFS Forum wrote:No I think it's fine. I don't see any new or show-stopper bugs here. I've fixed the demo banning bug and I'm going to have a look at SHIFT+U mode optimisation, it may be just an hour's work or so, that gives us plenty of tetsing time while I prepare the full versions and get things in place for today's release.
Here is an interesting thing with Blue Flags which I hadn't noticed till now.
No, it's not a bug, you don't get blue flags if you are nowhere near the racing line, and therefore not causing an obstruction.
Could be a late night tonight.
