Re: The Ashes 2013/14
Watched the ladies 20/20 and it's quite good until Charlotte Edwards opened the batting for England. Sarah Taylor played well too and made it look easy to bat. The woman's game is good to watch as it's not so much big hitting but constant running and just grinding away. But it also shows that well a timed shot doesn't need power. Some damn fine shots were played by both sides but our bowling sucked.
The funniest thing though was some of the commentary as one of the women on 9 said that Ellyse Perry has been in the gym trying to get a bowler's arse to help her get more power to bowl faster. James Brayshaw said "If that was the case then Mark Taylor would have been bowling at 190kph!". The whole box cracked up.

Great result by the Aussies...and a big credit to Boof Lehman..he is the man responsible for turning this team around...to beat the worlds best by that margin on there own dunhill is an awesome result...
This from Cricinfo...
As good as Mitchell Johnson was during the Ashes, he was never this good. South Africa are the world's No.1-ranked side, by a distance. They entered this match having lost only one of their past 19 Tests. Johnson not only dismantled them as a team, he almost dismembered them as individuals. He took a career-best 12 wickets as Australia cruised to a 281-run victory but just as important were the physical blows he landed. South Africa will not forget how intimidated they felt.
Maybe D Steyn can get some tips?
That make the last 6 test results...
Australia won by 381 runs
Australia won by 218 runs
Australia won by 150 runs
Australia won by 8 wickets
Australia won by 281 runs
**Australia won by 281 runs**

Mark Nicholson described Johnson as "vicious". From watching the highlights that seems pretty accurate.

Re: The Ashes 2013/14
Tell you what i liked about watching last night
Graham Smith's 2nd innings wicket. Wasnt a bad ball and it was quite a good shot. The catch was an absolute ripper reflex catch but the captaincy to put Doolan there was brilliant. Short leg behind square!! Though I would think it was for the short ball, Clarke was made to look good nonetheless.

I don't get where it's come from. He's moving into the final years of his career and some kind of switch has been flicked and he's bowling like a madman. Where was this years ago??
I bet the next wickets are gunna be flat and lifeless.

I have heard some rumours that people have been asking for more drug testing in cricket. Based on exactly what you are saying Dex.DexterPunk wrote:I don't get where it's come from. I think it is more to do with Boof and his philosophy. No homework, just a tap on the arse and letting them have a crack. They have a self belief these days that has come from no where.

He's been working really hard with a certain DK Lillie for a few years now and Boof came along and gave them all the environment and confidence they needed to get going again. Those two deserve a lot of credit.
I hope you guys are wrong about the doping but it's always there in pro sports :-(

It isn't me accusing him. I just read about it on a private forum. I dont know what sort of doping control cricket has, so I couldn't say a lot about it.pixelboy wrote:He's been working really hard with a certain DK Lillie for a few years now and Boof came along and gave them all the environment and confidence they needed to get going again. McDermott and Lillee must be helping though.
I am no fan of his, but the numbers don't lie for the past 12 months. I still maintain he is an A grade tool.

An A grade tool that can take your head off with a cricket ball.
His past 6 tests have been one of the biggest turn around's in sport for a long time. I was talking to someone who went to Durham to watch the 20/20 game and he said Johnson was all over the place and just horrible. Then in two months or so he's found his mojo.

I reckon it could go the other way just as quickly though. Fingers crossed he can keep it up.

McCullum just hit 302 against India and New Zealand posted their biggest ever score in test cricket - 8/680d.

9 'batsmen' combined for 22 runs - great work.
Extras, Rogers and Warner only ones in double figures.

Clarke is back. Fat mouth also scored heavily.
A 300 run day for the Aussies by the looks.

Maybe they should let Warner speak more often as he did well. He did put doubt in the umpires mind though as they were De Villiers like a hawk last night. I just hope our bowlers can get something out of this road.

Amazing courage early on but couldn't understand his reluctance to hook or pull early...norbs wrote:Clarke is back. Fat mouth also scored heavily.

I would have said it was ... one hot day does not a summer make.... but I will let VT provide feedback if even I am right
He certainly copped it though. Good on them for dishing it up too
