IL2 Battle of Stalingrad - Pre-Alpha Access
This is out in Pre-Alpha at the moment - 32% done or something. Some pre-ordered folk can fly an unarmed Lagg-3 on a small map as a trial. Here's a video of some flying (not mine). IL2-BoS is being done by 777, the mob who make Rise of Flight, so if you have that, it will feel very similar.

This is a great looking sim and developing nicely. They recently released the Stalingrad map which looks amazing and is accurate to a bunch of the critical buildings from the battle. Here's two images I took tonight.

Geezus the level of detail in that video.
Head out of the cockpit and you can see the flames coming out of the exhaust.

It wouldn't surprise me if they've modelled it to correctly show the actual firing order as well.

Don't think he's involved - 777 (Rise of Flight) are doing it.

Ah, well in that case, I might have to spring for it. I never got much satisfaction from CLoD.

The IL2 is out now - fantastic. I took it for a spin at night.

The new searchlights in Battle of Stalingrad are amazingly atmospheric, and in collaboration with AAA, deadly!

Bumpity bump
There is a sale on atm https://il2sturmovik.com/ Battle of Moscow, Battle of Stalingrad, Battle of Kuban
So I played Il-2 a lot back in the day and once made the mistake of employing ozmuppet as a gunner in a He 111, who proceeded to shot the tail off a number of times...
Anyway this new version, spread across different battles, is fun especially in VR but the win 10 1903 update did screw me over as the game won't run with the MSI gaming app running. I'm yet to try a career but I plan on flying a Bf-110. I was surprised to be able to drive tanks, a Panzer III and T-34. There is a dedicated early access tank game that is compatible with the other battles. But even driving a tank in VR in the Battle of Moscow was fun, though being the gunner was a little tough as the zoom did not work for me.
I've not had this for very long but I am enjoying it more than DCS world as it loads faster, seems more stable and is a lot less complicated. I'm no pilot but I do own the P-51 and Spitfire in DCS and the flight models in Il-2, to me, feel a lot better. I would never pay full price but on sale the battles are worth getting.

I own the whole set but never get around to playing with it because planes after WW1 have too many controls for me to map and keep my head around. I do have the Flying Circus stuff for when I really get the itch.

It's easy, just match your RPM and prop pitch so you rev the guts out of it. If it's getting too hot, open the water and oil coolers a bit more.
