Depending on which chargers are in the area you might also need to get rfid cards from the charge operator

I had to get Evie and Chargefox cards as some chargers go offline but can still be used if you have the card

Are we still in the early adoption stage?

Yeah, we have ordered the EVIE card. They have just added 4 points in the local shopping centre, so I need to go and check out what they are now. :)

Would love to see that in a Formula E pit stop. See who can make the fastest robot.

Gives strong 356 vibes. There you go, first electric car I'm even remotely interested in!

Nice one. I’ve been eyeing off the Volvo ex30 lately. Well I have been for a while, just none here to sit in until about now.

Yeah - seems this Essence model in this colour is very popular overseas where they can charge an extra premium for it.
So most of them go to Europe.
Around Xmas we can very close to telling them to forget it and looked at the Megane E-Tech, didnt like the small awkward boot and bland driving feel.

How's everyone going with their EV's? Any regrets?

Hired a Polestar 2 last week while on holidays - not bad, but definitely different to the Tesla and more traditional

Had some bugs in the UI and the software overall isn't that good - like you can't have the map up in the centre screen while also seeing what music was playing, or at least I couldn't figure out how to do it other than having the map shown on the instrument panel and Spotify on the centre screen

Not for me. The MG4 has shithouse software and apps. The console is so slow to respond, if it does. The app only lets 1 person log in at once. But, for the cost, I didnt expect world beating performance.

The car itself is great. The feeling I get topping it up at home instead of paying $100 for fuel makes it even better.

If I blew the motor in the mx5 I would seriously look at a conversion but other than that, current work from home situation doesn’t warrant the outlay.

We have a decent charging network in Tassie. More and more people are doing an ev holiday here due to our relative size. Chargers everywhere.

There's a servo near me that has pretty cheap prices - the queue to get in is normally 10 cars long, poor buggers

Wouldn't mind upgrading the Model 3 to the new Performance, but I'll hold out another few years and see what comes out

Had a test drive of the Volvo XC40 twin. Fucken hell. I’ve not been pinned to my seat like that in a long time. Was not expecting so much power from it. Lovely car though. Really liked it but will ultimately be too expensive for me to justify. Also drove the BZ4S. Was after the Volvo so wasn’t as impressed. It would be a closer replacement for our existing Subaru XV though. Still too expensive.

I went with the intention of trying the EX30 but it was simply too small. With my driving position where I wanted it, simply no way anyone could sit directly behind me. We didn’t drive it but I did like it.

I'm looking at EVs at the moment. I'm really happy with my current car but they've just introduced an EV scheme at work and after going through the numbers, it could actually work out cheaper to run a brand new car than my current 11 year old one that has nearly 100k miles on it.

I've always owned my cars as I'm not keen on the idea of leasing, but it's very tempting.

Has anyone had a go in the Lexus RZ?

I haven't had a go in any EVs but if I was after an SUV type I think I'd be looking at the BMW iX1, Audi e-tron, Volvo EX40, Tesla of course and the frankly excellent value for money Kia and Hyundai offerings. Maybe also the Cupra Formentor. If you want a little smaller, the Jeep Avenger looks good and the new Puma EV is coming soon. I've got a puma 1.0L petrol as a daily and it's great.

Just got one of these installed at home.
We can run it putting out up to 6.4 kW.
I'll play around until it matches the solar panel output of 4 kW

Enjoy the feeling Carl.

I dont know much about that brand, but I matched the charger to the inverter (brands) and I can tell mine to only use excess solar.

Purple below is what goes into the car. The grey spike is what happens when the wifi drops out on the inverter :)

In other news, the guy up the road is looking at getting an EV and asked if he could buy electricity off me. He rents and doesnt have solar. I told him he needs to buy a 7m charge cable and it will cost 30c/kwh. Let's see how that goes :)
