I've been thinking about a 7 string guitar for a while now. I currently have my ESP tuned to B but need some big mother strings to do it. The biggest Ernie Balls you can get. Where a 7 string just needs a 7 string set to achieve the same result. I'm thinking about this:
Image

Although it's purple it's 7 strings with tremolo and it's a V. My other BC Rich and the ESP don't have tremolo and V's look cool. Might make a nice b'day for myself in August.

That doesn't help much lol. Seems only the red ST, through on line stores in Oz, is available but I think the black hardware on the honey burst looks way better.

I'll stick with the V. I'm worried I may not get enough out of those pick ups on that Mockingbird ST as I like heavy :) There's another, Pro X, with EMG 81/85 but too much for me.

Got my V today and damn it's awesome now I can run it through my gear at home. Sounds really good through my MT-2 but I think I'll buy a Boss metal core shortly. It's odd having the extra string and is going to get some taking use to as I'm finding myself looking at what string I'm hitting as I keep playing it like a 6 string. It feels real good to play especially the neck even though it feels like it's 9 feet wide. The neck on my ESP feels like a tooth pick now. The pick ups are good and I'm finding the limit of my 30 watt amp and Boss Me-50. The metal zone 2 pedal just sounds so awesome but it sounds good with my ESP too. The BC Rich does sound better but then its neck through and mahogany/maple where the ESP is Agathis with maple bolt on neck.

As for strings well the BC Rich came with A'addarios and they sound good so will stick with them. Maybe in future an EMG 81 in the ESP and a Seymour Duncan SH-6 in the V but I'l get a metal core pedal and see how they go.

Bloody nice guitar :)

Only downside I can see is there's no way I can turn it up past 1 on the post gain without building a soundproof room :| ha sure does punch :aussie:

Gibson are making a 7 string V now as well, and it's about US$1400.

EMG's too, not normal for Gibson to use another companys pickups. It's obviously aimed at metal heads who like BB Kings guitar :D

Nicely found, wouldn't argue it. :) Soldano cab too? Totally awesome combo there.

Got myself a Digitech Whammy, for $125 barely used. It's very nice :vibes:

Shame we're talking about V guitars. Don't know why I don't like them and I'm one to like odd guitars like this one I *almost* obtained.

I'm getting use to my 7 string slowly. It's throwing me out somewhat as I hit the wrong string every now and then. It's very comfortable to play even sitting down but I need a strap on it. Makes a great noise too. It's got the BDSM pick ups which is their in house brand which do the job for me fine but toying with the idea of a nice Seymour Duncan passive humbucker in the bridge. SH-6 or SH-8 seem ok but need to find out more about them and how they sound with maghogny/maple/ebony. I want BIG bottom end but nothing muddy. I'll avoid active pick ups in it.

That Gibson V would make a fantastic noise :)

maybe give Barknuckles pickup a look, especially a Nailbomb or Warpig, they are mega. But they are boutique.

This dude has detuned so it might give you an idea of the clarity on the lower notes. I'd kill to get that sound out of one of my guitars.

oooohhhh nice :) That's pretty much the sound I like. Will check out those pick ups for sure. My 30 watt Marshall does the job but that makes me want a Marshall stack with that 2203 Kerry King head. :vibes:

I'm going to try a painkiller pup. My guitar being mahogany may have too much bass with a miracle man or a warpig. The trouble I have at the moment is the BDSM's in my V get too muddy and mushy on the bottom string and it sounds like shit.

Yeah that's the main problem with that low B string, you lose some clarity. Even the E string can be like that. I tend to play an A power chord on the open A string rather than on the 5th fret on the E string. It just sounds crisper.

It's not a problem on my AX-250 as the EMG-ESP pick ups handled B no trouble. I got it tuned to D atm and it sounds great. An EMG 81 is looking good just to make it that bit better. There's clarity in that nailbomb though and a painkiller is meant to be for detuned guitars. I'd go an EMG 81 7 in the V but at $300 a pop well bare knuckle is a better option.

I'm thinking about a new amp. Looking at a Peavey Vypyr 75 watt. It's about as much as I can afford. My Marshall 30 watt isn't handling the 7 string with a metal zone pedal. I can't afford tube amp but the Vypyr can mimic a 6505 and more important can handle detuning so should work well with the 7 string. The Marshall does well as a bass amp so use it for that till it rattles a part

I,m thinking off a new practice amp and i,m leaning so far to a fender champ 600 or a vox ac4 . Never had a valve amp before and must say i,m looking forward to it.

Any other ideas on a small valve amp Oh Lords of Rockage?
