Welcome to the currently ongoing saga of Carl's new wheels.
with V and I booked in to do Outback Odyssey this year, I thought i would treat myself to a nice new set of wheels.
The complicating factor being that my bike is sufficiently old that the (rear) axle standard is fairly outdated.
Found a set of heavily discounted Mavic wheels on Pushys, and then in a masterful bit of timing, a further discount code came up making them even cheaper. Wheels purchased.
Wheels arrive and I find that the necessary quick release axle adapters that I need were not in the box. I make some inquires and do a bit of online research and I find that the wheels I purchased are 2018 model wheels, where as the spec sheet on the Pushys website are 2019 model. The key difference being that the 2019 model comes with these adapters, and the 2018 model do not. They also use a different axle.
Pushys get back to me, and after a bit of back and forth they tell me that the axle adapters are being sent out. Winning. Adapters arrive. Adapters are for the 2019 model, not the 2018 model.
By this stage I had already purchased one of the 2 sets of axle adapters i needed. So i figured that I would just try to find the remaining set elsewhere. Pushys have tried, but not quite got there.
I reach out to 2 Mavic distributers in Adelaide, and while both where keen to help, neither could supply the required adapters. The last one suggesting that I try ordering from Europe. Small catch - Mavic distributers are not allowed to export outside their country/zones. I had previously decided to not buy Mavic based on this policy, but hey, what could go wrong, right?
I finally found a place that had them, and wouldn't charge 4x their price in postage. With any luck they will arrive from the Netherlands before Outback Odyssey in May. <sigh>
here's a photo of the front wheel with a brand new Pirelli Scorpion Hardpack tyre mounted up tubeless
