Looking at the TV numbers, they will be sticking with it. If Foxtel/Kayo are an indication.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
I know I'm a bit of a traditionalist but I feel like they're really trying to cater to the newer Drive To Survive type fans that want everything condensed into quick bursts of action. Cricket has gone the same way, from tests to one dayers and then 20/20 for those with short attention spans.
They've introduced silly stats graphics that give driver's ratings out of 10 for things like braking etc, or the qualifying prediction graphics, or the new one that had Alonsos name above his car and a square graphic around his wheels.

I have often wondered, how do they know what Hamiltons tyres are up to? It is just a massive plug for AWS.
Cricket is not done yet either! The Hundred starts soon. FMD.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
Noticed that one as well, nothing new really cos Nascar has been doing that for decades but the square around the car left me wondering if someone forgot to assign an alpha channel to the graphic. I get the name above the car but the rectangle around the wheels seemed pointless.
Its hard to gauge the sprint 'race' with the new car on the horizon. IF the new car makes passing possible and close racing without gimmicks like DRS then in my opinion the sprint race isnt needed.
The push to gamerfy F1 is strong with Liberty... The start light sounds drive me bonkers, mainly because someone thought it would be a good idea to assign audio to the lights illuminating BUT, there is NOTHING when they go out, which is actually the only important part of the entire start sequence...

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
Maybe they should do a sprint championship. Completely separate. My reservation is that I don't want the title of the full race championship decided on a quick 15 minute sprint on a Saturday. It works in F2 because they're a support race, mainly shorter and more intense, but not for F1.
You have to give them some credit for thinking of something new. The alternative is an hour of practice where nothing exciting happens. Now they have a race that people want to actively watch maybe with some tweaks, mandatory pit stop perhaps. Qually on Friday night didn't quite work for me though. I got home just in time for it to start so missed the build up. That might work better on a Saturday morning.
The Cricket 100 makes no sense to me, it's only 20 balls less than a T20 game! What next the 50? 20? because people think the 100 goes on too long? And then in the lunch break the 10 to entertain the fans?

That was big...
Lulu was pretty far off the apex, I think Max gave him enough room.

Look at where Hamilton ends up out of the corner.
Given the penalties at Spielberg, surely he gets a penalty.
How are the pommy commentators. Is like they are seeing something different on the screen.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
If Max wasnt there is was a very sloppy line thru Copse for Lulu.
Can anyone else sit on the fence and just call it a racing incident?

Kudos to Damon Hill. The only Brit to even suggest a penalty.
LH front wheel hits MV rear wheel. Pretty cut and dry. Some pretty interesting thoughts on twitter.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
I was slightly surprised at that.
I thought Chandhok would have been less biased. Shit even Crofty was more level headed than I give him credit for.
Will be interesting to see what they come up with. If Russell copped a penalty for that incident with Charles yesterday one would think its a no brainer.

10 seconds. Not a bad investment. He could still podium.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
Lulu was very restrained on the 2nd start but as this first stint plays out it illustrates how desperate he was to get past max on the 1st race start.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
Doesn't quite seem right that you can get a 10sec penalty and still win. A bit like Imola when he was 7th and a lap down and still finished 2nd because he was able to unlap himself after the red flag. He always comes up smelling of roses.
But you have to hand it to him. 11 laps to go and 9secs to make up and he manages it. Bottas was behind Leclerc for 10-20 laps and made no inroads, Hamilton is allowed past and just goes after it like a carrot on a stick.

Not nice to hear.
The other point to make. If he isn't the luckiest driver ever, I'll give it up.
That was a solid hit, and yet he drives on to win. We have seen a lot of cars retired with much smaller collisions.
Notice he didn't make the same mistake again. If he was right, and it was his corner, why didn't he do the same to leclerc?

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
The Stewards reviewed video and telemetry evidence. Cars 33 and 44 entered turn 9 with Car 33 in the lead and Car 44 slightly behind and on the inside. Car 44 was on a line that did not reach the apex of the corner, with room available to the inside.
When Car 33 turned into the corner, Car 44 did not avoid contact and the left front of Car 44 contacted the right rear of Car 33. Car 44 is judged predominantly at fault.
Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Article 10.1.1 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
Lewis got what he deserved with the clash I reckon. His fault but he didn't make a super late move or anything. He was alongside but didn't make the apex. Max gave him room. He pulled it off much better against Charles where he actually got to the apex.
Normally I'd say that robbed us of a race but I think Max would have walked it so actually made things more exciting up front. The win still felt hollow to me though. Beating a Ferrari doesn't carry the same kudos.
Good for the championship too although you feel Red Bull and Max really have this in hand at the moment. On a bad weekend for them pace wise they still started from pole. Lewis was obviously desperate to get the lead.

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
Yeah I kinda feel like the penalty is deserved and harsh enough, If it was two midfield cars that did this the penalty would be enough to push that person out of the points. You cant change the penalty and make it harsher cause he is in a better car..
That being said, Gloves are off now.. cant wait for the next race

Re: 2021 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix
Yeah there is a fair bit of difference in Loowis' road positioning the 2nd time around.
I reckon he was super desperate to get past Max in lap 1 as he knew the race was going to be very difficult to beat him if he didnt. You can see the difference in how he raced Leclerc v Max knowing that he had a big car advantage over the Ferrari. There was no desperation to clear the Ferrari in lap 1 of the restart.
