cool racing photos
I can't believe we don't really have a thread for racing photos, so I'll kick it off with this from Derek Bell's FB page.

Much safer than the aluminium honeycomb tubs that came before it! Even just looking at the pre-96 F1 cars with their lack of side head protection is weird now.

Re: cool racing photos (sticky?)
I wish I knew where I had the picture, think it was an old printed F1 mag but.
There was a cut away diagram illustrating this era car against a 2000's or late 90's Ferrari.
The old school beast had the drivers feet inline with the front axle.
Compared to the layout now these guys surely earn't their money. I reckon it would feel a little odd sitting so far forward compared to now days where the driver is almost int he center of the chassis.

Re: cool racing photos
Love that photo but the shadow of the first BRM has always confused me. It looks like there are no suspension arms holding those wheels on.

So it seems I'm not the only one who thinks there's been some photoshopping going on in that one?KNAPPO wrote:Love that photo but the shadow of the first BRM has always confused me. It looks like there are no suspension arms holding those wheels on.

I've always thought the shadows look odd too.

Re: cool racing photos
The whole photo looks odd to me, the track surface is featureless, the angle and scale of the cars seems wrong, something about the lighting on the cars and the background doesn't seem to fit.

Re: cool racing photos
as far as i can tell it's shopped out of a couple of photos, here's the one of Stewart. They've got the aspect ratio of the car wrong and made it too skinny. Also the shadow is skewed to make it look like the road on on a huge angle. I also don't think Hill would be getting that much air before he hit the hump.

Re: cool racing photos
Explains a lot. Ive always found that tandem BRM photo a little off.
Love it how there is a tin top from a previous event/category still in the weeds at the Flugplaz whilst the F1's are ontrack.

It's amazing what you can photoshop these days, I'm just thankful that the photos I have of the 1966 f1 season are totally legitimate

Re: cool racing photos
Found this while searching for some GPL stuff, Jochen Rindt's crash at Montjuic Park and a letter he wrote afterwards.
Harrowing stuff considering how unsafe Jochen said the Lotus was, only to go back to the same team for 1970.

Re: cool racing photos
AMG track day. Probably better being in an A45 today than a new C63.
