Yeah, I saw it the other day & drooled alot... You'd have to have a specific need for it as most race cars these days are seq (shift or flaps).

I do like the grip tape on the brake. I have been meaning to buy some for the brake levers and shifters on my mountain bike so I might grab a bit more and whack some on the sim pedals.

As mentioned before around here, my racing stuff gets strapped to my desk. The bastard of the whole setup is the pedals. Being on an office chair with wheels has always meant that I needed some source of friction that was enough to stop the chair rolling away from the pedals when braking, thanks to load-cell brakes. The answer until now has been some kind of soft floor covering, but it was never a perfect solution. So this last weekend I endeavoured to solve the issue once and for all.

Introducing the Strap-on Cockpit Pedalbox V1.0

Imagepedalbox2 by C S, on Flickr

All timber is recycled scrap. I only had to spend some money on screws.

Advantages:
  • The chair never runs away from the pedals
  • The pedals are raised by about 100mm and makes for a significantly more natural-feeling drving position
  • The whole thing can stand on its end under the desk for discreet storage

Fantastic solution Cursed.

Mind you after having a cockpit I could never go back to driving a desk. :p

Very close to what I did when racing at the desk. Only with mine I had 2 rods that came out from beside the pedals that hooked into a hole in the top of the chair legs.

I also had a second box filling the gap between the pedal mount and the wall which made it easy to always get in the same spot and doubled as a bit of a foot rest when the pedals weren't in place.

If you race in bare feet/socks you might want to round off those corners. It's surprising how much pain can be caused by forgetting they're there :)

James High has released the first episode of Direct Drive Life, a new sim racing Youtube show.
As the name suggests, the show will focus on high-end sim racing hardware and other topics in the sim racing world that don’t get much exposure on mainstream Youtube channels.
Episode 1 starts out with a bang as James has invited real race car driver Shields Bergstrom to test drive iRacing and share his opinion on it afterwards.
A new episode of Direct Drive Life is planned to be released each month so we can look forward to much more excellent stuff from James!

The Cruden Hexatech Simulator is Bigger, Stronger, and more high tech then any simulator that comes to mind. And it has a price tag to match. After many years of seeking this unicorn of motion sims, Shaun Cole of The Simpit finally got some seat time in one. Prior to driving the sim he had a brief chat with Maarten van Donselaar the CEO of Cruden. They talk about the sims abilities and its best applications. Then Shaun tells you a bit of what it was like to drive this monster sim.

The movable triple display setup is 90% done. Still a little bit of tweaking (needs to be lowered by 80mm and a slight adjustment to the left monitor mount) and I will be happy.

I can move it forward to just behind the wheel and swing the out side monitors to about 50 degrees.

Had a quick run before in Ac and got motion sick! FFS.

I'd need a box of tissues if I had 3 monitors too.

I don't reckon that will last long. I remember when I first stepped up from a 24" monitor to a 40" TV for a display. With TrackIR on, I managed to make myself feel a bit queasy looking out of my flying Sopwith Camel in Rise of Flight. I think it just takes the brain a little bit to adjust to this big moving image it is seeing.

That is some impressive engineering effort there.

There are those on the spectrum that let their OCD rule their lives, and there are us messy fuckers, that just get on with it. :D

I hope so. Dropped it all 80mm this morning and it is better. I have the rollers so it can come all the way to the wheel if I want, but that is just too close. My old eyes have trouble focusing THAT close.

Now it is just fine tuning. We are thinking of an old drill motor and grub screw to move it back and forward using 2 buttons and an Arduino. :yikes:

I think if you sat in the seat you'd be fine. I don't know how many non racers have had a go on my setup and said they wanted the same.

In 3 weeks woodsy, Pix, Smith and macca will all be here. Let's see what they think.

Messy, maybe. Fun? Fucking oath.
