V8 Supercars 2013

Post by NeilPearson »

Interesting rule changes for next year.

Double file restarts, alot of the races wont have refueling, and some races will have two 60 kilometre races with a 15 min break inbetween them on the saturday.

Scott McLaughlin to GRM. At least there is one team boss willing to take a risk on new talent instead of relying on drivers who are past their prime. (Ingall, Murphy, Johnson, Bright etc)

Rogers is a known cheap bastard and he uses that to good effect by getting new guys who may have talent for bargain basement prices. Then they get good(hopefully), maybe win a race or two for him, and get drafted by the teams willing to shell out for a good driver. Meanwhile Rogers gets credited as a talent finder, not just a cheap prick. He's not the sort of guy to hire an established star and pay them good coin. I'm assuming he does the same with team personel too. It's a risky method, and one that will probably never see them as championship contenders because by the time they are good enough they are off somewhere else.

The downside to it is they might not have any commercial appeal, guys like Ingall and Murphy continue to get drives because sponsors are happy to give money to a team that has marketable people. Look at the Enforcer ads, i bet there's no way HRT would have hired Ingall without the Supercheap partnership. It must be a fine line deciding on a drivers worth, do they go for low cost potentially good driver, or established marketable driver that has questionable pace. One may cost very little but bring next to no money into the team, the other may cost a lot more but earn that back with commercial appeal. Or do you just go for a guy who has a big wad of dads cash and wants to play race driver on weekends and may only fluke a result.

Sounds like Murph will just be running the enduro's in 2013, I would say back to NZ to run Supertourers

Is there a list of confirmed drives for next year (so far) at all?

Is this the 'car of the future' bollocks year or is that next?

Sounds like 9 and 10 have pulled out, so 7 is only bidding low for the rights. Presumably will only be a short term contract if v8s know what they are doing

Here's my prediction. All rounds on 7 and foxtel apart from Bathurst which will only be on 7

I don't mind the 7 coverage, but for me speed tv is much better as its in HDTV.

They think 360p is good enough for youtube, so I doubt they'll make HD any time soon.

Transmitted in HD on Fox (supposedly). Definitely much sharper than FTA

i understand what you're saying but if it's only filmed in SD then being on an HD capable channel shouldn't make it any clearer than it being on 7. Mind you i'm no expert on pixels.

There will be more details later today.

Channel 10 in my opinion would have been a better choice. No matt white and the rest of the blow in wankers at Melb/Bathurst.
