Has Minecraft run its course on ARSE?
Hey guys, was chatting to Raz last night about the server and the quantity of people now playing MC and it's pretty clear that enthusiasm has waned to the point that we have to ask ourselves if the server is still worth the outlay?
I know Raz and myself are pretty much out of ideas and inspiration, and with D3 coming out and already paid for that's where I'll be playing for the fair while in to the future unless the game turns out to be utter garbage, maybe some server mods would keep things alive but I'm not sure now is a good time to try and tie ourselves to some mods given that the single player part of MC is about to get some major changes with single player games running as a multi-player instance.
What are your thoughts, is there anyone going to be playing on the server enough to front the $42/month it costs to have it, or should we just shut it down at the end of this financial month and revisit hosting a server if we feel the urge again down the track?
We have 22 days as of this post to make our decision as that's when the money runs out.

Re: Has Minecraft run its course on ARSE?
Ive not been on for a few weeks other than 20 minutes a week ago. Was a week night and I expected others to be online but I was alone.
I am of the opinion that it has run its course. Like you guys, Im out of ideas.
Happy to let it slide. If others agree of course.
Huge thanks to you and Raz for this latest chapter in MC either way

I haven't been on for aaaggggeeeesss, so for me at least, it's run its course. During the time I was played by though, I had so much fun on the ARSE server :-)

I think you guys are right. It is so much better playing when there are others online.
My thanks to all involved over the past 12 months or more.
One question. Could the current map be imported to single player? I would love to be able to wander around checking stuff out offline.

I'm easy Neil, but mods won't bring me back initially, I'm definitely at the "need an extended break" stage, I've been trying a couple of mods like industrial craft among others in single player to see if I can spark some enthusiasm but it just isn't there. I'd be more concerned about whether there are enough players playing to justify the cost as those players that play will need to pay for it, as those that aren't playing probably wont.

I could host a download of the map so you could fire up a local server to check it out Norbs, I think you can stick a multi-player map into single player to try it but it's been a while since I've done it so I don't know if it still works, the last time I tried it was pre-anvil map format change.norbs wrote:I think you guys are right. I finally stopped in the other night to finish my plane after a few weeks absense. Busy busy with work and other things lately. Although I think if more people played I would probably be playing (or dying) as well.

If you guys want, I could host it again, just to keep it going.

Re: Has Minecraft run its course on ARSE?
That could be an option Astro if you are happy to do it, given that we don't have the numbers like we used to it might be the way to go, and if mojang does some major changes that brings folks back we can always look at getting hosting again.

Sounds good Astro. I still play it when I can, but I can see the point of stopping hosting costs when the numbers are just not there to justify it.

All that's needed is 1.2.4 vanilla server at this stage, and an admin interface of you feel the need, but the current server is pretty stable, just schedule it to restart once a day and it should be fine.

Re: Has Minecraft run its course on ARSE?
just watching my kids playing MC on a "Hunger Games" server. They all start on a pedastal and when the game starts, off they go running around looking in chests that have random items placed in them. Then its a last man standing PvP contest. Actually quite good to watch

And what about the house made of wool..
Some play it safe on the merry-go-round, others go for the thrills of the roller-coaster.

Re: Has Minecraft run its course on ARSE?
Just hopped on the server for the first time in a while. Shame no one is on it much any more. Might go around and finish my little village in my spare time.
If there ever becomes another server with an interesting MP mod, I'd like to try it out.

Re: Has Minecraft run its course on ARSE?
I can't play online because I use that newer version that isn't offical but has nice single player features. I mostly now just play creative with the kids.
