Depends what you want to do realy.

Flash a different rom orgo back to stock. Frankly if you are having issues I'd go a full wipe and just start from factory. Just to make sure.

Beat thing I did was go in to Gmail and put all my contacts in there. It also syncs your apps so when you do a full wipe everything gets downloaded automatically. Considering I'm on my 4th rom in 4 weeks makes it easy.

ah ok, can i go to gmail and make a backup like that or what? full wipe to return to stock sounds easiest way and if she can get contacts and apps back automatically i dont see any issue

Setup a google account on the phone and choose all the syncing options as you go through the setup process.. I went into my Gmail and setup all my contacts in there manually then synced it with the phone. I dont have many, as i keep my contacts to a bare minimum.

if like me you didnt backup the phone on the original root and rom install, youll need the stock roms which can be found in this thread.

Doesnt give you the info on how to install them, so be careful.

On my wife's phone her contacts that were on the phone or sim wouldn't automatically sync to her gmail account so I exported them to the sd card. This created a vcard file, you can log into gmail on a pc and then import them using that file. In future any time she creates a new contact using the phone she can select her gmail account and it will sync to the cloud automatically.

So what roms are folks currently using on their SGS2? I've been toying with a few of late but all the reskinned Samsung firmware do little for me, roms like CM7 or Oxygen look like what I'd like to be using but the camera/gallery apps currently crash the phone so until they sort that I'm not sure what else to try.

I'm on a standard 2.3.5 I9100XXKI3 rom from samfirmware and the battery is amazing. In lite'ning rom i was having trouble getting to the end of work without it going flat but now it will easily make bedtime and i still have 30-40% left.

i posted that from my phone so i couldn't link it, i was hoping you'd google it :D Here it is, it's a full wipe, and it also contains files for the modem etc so you'll have i think 4 or 5 files to install via Odin at the same time.

yeah because it's a proper rom. I have done a couple of other small things like turn off animation and also i didn't bother with it syncing my email. I very rarely get email that is desperate so it's off at the moment. Not sure if both of those save battery but i'm sure it would help a little bit.

there's also some Samsung 2000mAh batterys for sale now, for about $50 that offer about 25% longer battery life. And because they are a smidge fatter they come with a new back cover that makes the back of the phone dead flat. Unlike the standard covers that are lower than the camera. So it would probably be a bit better anyway.

If Casemate come up with a tough case for the 2000mah battery I'll be all over it, but I can't give up my current tough case.

The back is about 1mm bigger and as you can see in the pics it is level with the camera and the bottom part of the phone. I would imagine most cases would be pretty darn close to fitting unless they are molded to fit the current uneven back. I like the idea also because it might even help protect the camera lens a bit.
