2011 National MTB Champs - Eagle on the Hill SA

Post by Hz-Lab »

Went to the Nationals today at Eagle. I was there last weekend riding this very same Downhill Trail, and it's brutal. Not the best flowing trail, but one that sorts the men out from the boys. These guys run the trail in around the 2.05 to 2.30 range, I ran it in about the 3.50 mark... I have some catching up...lol. Anyway, there were XC, 4X & Trials titles up for offer too, but they were ran during the week (shitty programming this year round), so I only managed to get out to the Downhill today.

Conner Fearon managed to take out the Junior Mens just over Current Junior World Champ, Troy Brosnan. Both Local boys, both about to hit the World cup circuit. Both have insane pace and Within about 2 years I reckon SA might have 2 guys in the World top 10, and along with WA's Sam Hill, will make for 3 Aussies in there. For a country who has DH trails few and far between, and very little mountains by comparison to the rest of the world, Australia pack a huge punch in the world DH scene.

Mic Hannah took out the Elite Men, just edging over Josh Button, Chris Kovarik was looking quick but took a fall some 50 meters from the finish. Bryn Atkinson rounded up the podium.

Here's some pics from the day.

This is young Troy Brosnan, current Junior World Champ, he's a tiny unit in comparison to some of the solid freaks he runs against. just a note:- over 15k worth of bike he's sitting on there.

Was good to get out with the Camera too, it's been quite some time.

is it uphill or downhill? It does look like he's going uphill but after looking at it again it could be downhill.

it's down. I am below the rider there. There is a fast steep shoot into a creek gap just a few meters before that next jump, all hidden by the landing.

Damm theres some serious dudes out there, and injuries, 1 broken femur, 1 thumb almost torn off, broken noses and lost teeth, lots of war wounds at the afterparty..
1 $8000.00 Specialised turned into a shattered pile of carbon fibre and someone backed over their Scott Scale something or other with a ute.

awesome. I am heading to Buller to ride the DH trails later this year for a road trip with the lads. Also plan on hitting the XC trails while i'm there too. Buller is fast becoming the premiere MTB venue in Aus. Shame it took a private opperator to see the potential for it in this country and put any government backed venue to shame.

Your lad got any photo's Cutter? put them up.
