Have you got rythmn?

I just made this simple Flash game. Basically, all you have to do is click your mouse in time with the beat. The closer you are to the beat, the bigger your score and if you are more than 0.1s away from the beat, it's game over.

Here's the link:

This is just the first draft so I'm after as much feedback as possible, particularly on if it's too easy (or hard).

Even if you think it's shit I'd like to know :)

Well, I definately have no riddim.... and your little test proved it I think :D

Had a few goes and best I managed was 13 before I got my mouse lag (mebbe thats why I keep gettin shot in COD 5 :( )

Neat little application though, does the beat change after a while ? I guess not as the test is to maintain a rythmn.

Nice durbs. Easier with your eyes closed.

Oh and something I just noticed. It is way easier when I use the trackpad buttons on the laptop. The mouse seems to lag all over the place.

The second screenie is with the trackpad, just before the phone rang. No idea why the score is less though. :)

Err yeah that certainly doesn't look right norbs. The score is based on how close to the beat you are so if your average was higher it might make a little sense, but that's just odd. I'll look into it tomorrow.

Interesting that it's lagging. The SWF is running at 50fps which should be fine for most PCs because there's not much going on. Flash isn't great at doing accurate timers but it should be fairly accurate to 0.01 even if the frame rate does drop.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've tried it and could not keep it together for 2 beats.
It seems as if the mouse button itself was too 'soft' - hence it's just not registering the exact time.
I'd definitely increase the time to .2, maybe even allow people to play with a key instead.
Then the next level could be 2 beats (up/down buttons) later 4 beats (all directions) ?

Aaah...could it be that the 'click' is registered when you release the button, instead of when you push it?
Yes, definitely that. It's not good, mate, I can keep it together better now, pushing it much earlier, and releasing it to the beat, but that's just not good.

This is after realising the situation: (It's just a bit boring to keep going so I simply quit)

I got up to 55 hits and gave up, I don't think I was going to miss :)

Maybe another idea would be for the 0.1 target to get smaller as time goes on?

Nice little flash game though mate, well done

I've updated this game based on your comments. To make it a bit more interesting, the visual aids disappears the longer you play, so you're left with just your own rythmn if you can get that far. Personally I think it's bloody hard now but I'd be interested to know what you think :)

Any more feedback would be appreciated, cheers :)

I found I was doing better playing with my eyes closed anyway and just listening to the beat... irrespective of that I still got no riddim :D
