okay, so i don't think you and V should ride together :/norbs wrote: My fucking cave man brain takes over. I saw my mate Barry shoot past me on the first climb (I lost about 700 places LOL) and all of a sudden my legs were pushing harder. Im not a smart man Carl, you know that
V: I'm just going to take it easy on the ride today
C: sounds like a good idea...
<45 minutes later i can hear a lot of huffing and puffing coupled with an increase in noise from the trainer>
<another 15 minutes later, V rolls off the trainer, collapsed on the floor, close to vomiting>
C: I thought you were going to take it easy?
V: Yeah, but someone was in front of me!!!

Re: Zwift.
Great effort by all I say!!!
Carl, it is Le'Tape of course it is a race.
I actually quite surprised myself with my result yesterday. I was keen to be in the top 500 but don't know why, just was.
To finish 300th in game & sub 200 in ZP was even more surprising as it was damn fast.
Loved the course, in that it never stayed straight for too long & was quite undulating with lots of change of scenery like ocean, marina, fields, creeks, aqueduct, castles, mountains (in the distance). But it isn't France like you said, just another Zwift interpretation using pretty much the same / similar objects from the Zwift cartoon shop.
I really hope Ven Top offers something a little different, although I doubt it especially given it is Forrest down low then moonscape up high.
But I can't wait to do it next week, it is my favourite climb in the world due to how unique & exposed it is.

Re: Zwift.
If you got an invite to a meet up this arvo, dont panic. I think Duke is going to help me out.
It is a test to see if we can set up some handicap races like we have done before.
Carl if you happen to join, give me a 2 minute head start.

Just did the Virtual Tour de France - Stage 3 Discovery Ride & loved the R.G.V. course as it suits my style.

Re: Zwift.
I was discussing the up and coming L'etape ride with V this afternoon and I mentioned this.. what do you normally have your trainer difficulty set at? V might end up going down this path for the Ventou climb.norbs wrote: I had mine down to 40%. I see absolutely no issue with doing that either. Dont let the macho lunatics tell you otherwise. You still have to produce the power to get to the top. If I was going to France, the long derailer would be back on the bike and the 32 on the back for sure.

I think from memory around 70%. But since i have been crook, I know I wound it down to 50 for some climbing.CLP wrote:I was discussing the up and coming L'etape ride with V this afternoon and I mentioned this.. what do you normally have your trainer difficulty set at? Re: Zwift.
50% everywhere for me, running a 12-28T cluster & 52/36T chainwheels.
No point grinding cause even if it was rl & a steep climb I'd go 50/34T compact anyway.

Re: Zwift.
She's a beast that is for sure. Am happy to do a sub 90mins.
While the climb / gradient maybe 1:1 to RL I was disappointed in the scenery.
Where is the lower forest?
The moonscape is just bare ground with the usual rocks we see in Zwift.
Is there a winter version? As I missed that there was now snow walls.
Zwift have really missed an opportunity with this one.
Think I'll stick to doing Ventoux on other platforms that have real video footage.

Good going. I don't think I achieved that. But I don't think I pedalled much either.CLP wrote:on the plus side, I managed to pick up the 100km/h badge on the way down as well

I didn't pedal a whole lot, save for a few choice bits. If it hadn't been for not having the 100km/h badge, I wouldn't have bothered :Pnorbs wrote:Good going. I don't think I achieved that. Re: Zwift.
Nice one CLP, but how did you get up to 100km/hr on that descent? Did you have a powerup?

Re: Zwift.
i don't think i did at that point.. (i did earlier, and failed to get past the mark). There's a few spots where the gradient is 11% or steeper for a decent enough distance. So the technique is pedal like a mofo in the lead up and then stop, to allow your dude to get into the super tuck I was doing nearly 900 watts in the lead up to getting this!Duke wrote:Nice one CLP, but how did you get up to 100km/hr on that descent? That talk about trainer difficulty the other day. Well... https://zwiftinsider.com/trainer-diffic ... anny-gear/
I think he has over simplified it, different trainer certainly have different feels, but it is a start.

Just remember, you still have to put out the power to go up a hill.
