Some have talked about using the snow golems in turrets to lure mobs into traps so there may be a use for them depending on where you're building.

Snow isn't in 1.8 due to a bug/incomplete biome code but it's supposed to be back in 1.9.

I hope when it's out of beta or the underlying game is at least complete they start adding a lot more free content, but it would speed things up if they'd hire one of the prominent modders to work purely on content while they work on the core game/bug fixes.

There will possibly a release tomorrow, but I don't know what it will be. 1.9 or a 1.9-pre perhaps.

Lol, is he serious, a pre-release for a beta, to make it more beta-ish. :doh:

What do folks think, leave the server as is until the official 1.9, I'm inclined to let someone else bug test for a change.

Yeah, I'd leave it until it's official.

Lots of new stuff in this version, but with new builds coming out so often I'll stick to single player for now.

i say we just wait for official release in November. before we update. Just stay on 1.8 and this map, then once official release comes on 18/11/2011 or around there we refresh to a new map. I think we are going to have a few releases before we get minecraft final coming out.

1.10 will get split to 1.11
1.11 will get split to 1.12
...

The joys of feature creep :)

Minecon does make a pretty firm date though.

To be fair though, From what I have read from notch about minecraft is that he will always be adding new stuff to it. He doesnt know if itll just stream in updates like now for free or come in DLC. (hope everyone is an alpha player here :P) Thats his plans now, but who knows.

Spoke to Raz earlier (well via email) and he wants to know when we are updating the map, he expected it to be on 1.9pre already. :rofl:

I don't think I can wait that long, maybe 1.9 official or 1.1 official but wait until minecon is a long time without the new stuff.

OK, I might trim off some extraneous exploring I did before I update it, I know bauer is off to the nth about 4 clicks but we don't need my 27km boat ride buggering up the terrain generation to the south.

Ok folks, server is off line for the night while I upload the trimmed down map, gone from 920mb down to 361mb so it's a bit more manageable now.

When the server fires up again and new chunks are generated we may get some weird things going on with the terrain, if this happens they'll make nice features for us to look at, I fully expect this to happen when we move to 1.9 anyway as the terrain engine has had some major changes. :D

They must have changed melons in 1.9. They appear to be the quickest way to grow food now.

The plants can still take a while to grow, but once they do they spawn melons at about the same speed as wheat takes to grow. Difference is instead of 1 piece of wheat you get 3-7 melon slices.

Shame I had to cheat to find a stronghold in order to get the seeds. Fucking stupid how they're all underground. They should have strongholds above ground and dungeons below ground.

lots to play with in 1.9 pre3. sky realm, enchanting, potions

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can translate the writing for the enchantments
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sgapage.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Doesn't seem to be anything meaningful though. I translated a few and it appears to just be random words

sword
snuff cube sphere destroy
imbue physical light beast

pickaxe
bless demon spirit berata

axe
fire cold fire
dry stretch snuff

Really wish I could have a level 14 axe of dry stretch snuff :?

Turning into an FPS Terraria which isn't a bad thing at all! I like Terraria but didn't like the 2D scrolling. Now all we need is Goblin armies and Eater of Worlds!
