It is werid, the different sites having different figures. Garmin and Strava both give me different totals for the year, despite both getting their data from the Edge 500.

I suspect that the differences can be attributed to how the site/programss use the data available.norbs wrote: It is werid, the different sites having different figures. Garmin and Strava both give me different totals for the year, despite both getting their data from the Edge 500.
garmin connect, from what i can work out uses the distance from the speed sensor if available. So assuming things are sufficiently calibrated, that should be the most accurate. Any deviations from that mean that the site/program is using the GPS data to derive the distance. Some sites probably apply smoothing algorithms to the path, so that too may influence the distance that they measure.

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
A few km difference between sites could be explained by different rounding/truncation but nothing like the difference Flinty has. I had a look into the data and the first 3 months, particularly January, don't match up.
For instance, Jan 29th there is a 111.89km ride on bike journal that isn't on strava and there were a couple others in that month which didn't seem to fit, though a 58km ride that is shown as a January 31 ride on bikejournal is appearing as a Feb 01 ride on strava.
So on strava, January is out due to at least 1 missing ride and one being bumped to Feb.
Feb is out because of the January ride.
March is out by 6km but I haven't looked into that.
The rest are reasonably close.

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
Thanks heaps Darren, I double checked my SportsTracks software & I did do a ride on Sunday 30th Jan that never got uploaded to Strava.
Actually it goes a bit deeper than that as I remembered once I found it on ST. My Garmin was flat that day so I had to use another team-mates Garmin data which starts & finishes in a different location as well as has his HR plots. I think my plan was to upload to BJ to record it on my sig tracker & then after modify his track to match my own start / finish points before uploading to Strava. But I obviously never got around to it. It's all fixed now by uploading his data but I will revisit asap to match what I did that day, it will still be over 100km's all the same.
Now interestingly Strava is some 70k's ahead of BJ now but I believe most of that is due to Strava rounding up to the next whole km for most riders, particularly rides that are over 100km long.

Rounding/truncation could only account for a few km in my opinion. There's probably another ride or 2 in Jan that don't match up.

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
I'm using Strava now instead of Bikejournal. Is there any way I update this with Strava and roll over the totals or should I just do a few bulk entries in to Bike Journal?

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
I just need to switch you in the database in order to get your data from strava. I only pick up new rides though so it would be better if bikejournal had the correct total first, or you could let me know what your total should be and I'll update the database directly. Then rides you add to strava will be added on from that point.

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
Meh, just switch it over from now, I can't be arsed updating bikejournal for the sake of maybe 200k's, I'm doing more and more k's a week now anyway and with daylight savings about to start I'll just have a crack at it from here on in.

Re: 50,000,000 metres!
Actually, re-read what you said about it only picking up Strava rides from now on. So far I have done 160k on Strava rides, if you could add that to the total before it rolls over that would rock!!! so 813k or something like that yeah?
