Doesn't worry me, we already decided the mp server will be a new map, and I don't have any single player maps since my last reinstall of Windows. :)

According to this guy you can keep using 1.7 maps but they won't get 1.8 features.

ummm that guy doesnt know shit, its going to work how its going to work now, new stuff wont spawn until you go to a brand new generated map. notch even says it in that video :| Watch around 3:20.

Watch around 2:40 when he flys into the cave, does the torch in his hand give off a glow?

ugh and this guy is calling it adventure mode. Its the ADVENTURE UPDATE for SURVIVAL MODE. Blah

That's what he said, and what I posted.

I also thought it looked like there was a glow around him in the cave. I watched it again and there are a few sections (fighting enderman at the start and 1:55) where it appears to be night time yet the area around is lit up for a fair way. Maybe they made it that way for the demo so that people don't get stuck in the dark and not be able to do anything.

Reading minecraftforum.net after that Jeb interview where he said survival mode wouldn't exist as it does in 1.7 made me think the iracing forums are actually pretty good :)

Sorry i mistyped, notch said in the video, when you go into newly generated area in a 1.7 map THEN it will load new 1.8 map stuff. but pre existing chunks wont have 1.8 features. Which is why if you look at caracarse, it doesnt have any tall grass, except for where i went nuts and planted it all around town. But newly generated chunks will have tall grass.

Alot of people are just whingers. one guy believes that creepers go against everything minecraft stands for, because when they explode he has to fix the holes they create, and that goes against his belief of what minecraft is.

That glow is just a brightness slider.

Not a fan of that option.

yeah im not a fan of that either! its a bit... fake.

at least turning up the brightness wont affect night time spawns. they will still spawn.

About time for the brightness slider I reckon, on my Dell 2707WFP when used with a calibrator minecraft has always been way too dark and I've had to resort to playing with the gamma in video drivers to fix it, I think notch may have orignallly come up with the original lighting levels on a crap monitor that had crap dark colour rendition.

As for all the other features, looks good, I'm actually looking forward to minecraft again.

Actually been playing around with Minecraft again, looking forward for the patch so I start on a few ideas I got.

Anyone else have blocks that like to spontaneously combust? Like below, I came back down into my mine and this block is on fire.... I don't understand why.

There is probably lava still underneath the floor.

I've seen it happen before online, random spontaneous fires near lava.

Ok so I went and had a look and there was lava underneath, all fixed up now :)

At first I felt I was going mad, would leave then come back and the ground would be on fire :S

Take our chances on the 8th?

lol... I haven't been on in ages, but now that the PC is firing again time to get the kit off!

I reckon we just update it asap... although what we have built is epic, time for a restart!

What is the theme this time?

I don't know Neil, I'm happy to go with updating on the 8th if that's when it comes out, we can live without any mods for a short time if need be on a clean map, as long as it doesn't crash the server like the garbage that was served up in 1.6 from mojang, given the amount of change in this verison I expect there to be many fix up releases after the initial 1.8 release.

Well Jeb has been working on 1.8 aswell as notch, i think Jeb is better at bug finding as he is coding than notch is. 1.6 was all notch.

From what I understand the release is going to be:

1.8 on the 8th, then small updates for 2 weeks, 1.8.1, 1.8.2.1,.8.3 etc Fixing as they go along and adding more features. As of PAX there were no NPC's to populate the Villages, and they said they would be releasing the PAX version on the 8th....

I think when you end up building a giant mushroom farm and doing this to it, you're ready to move on from single player. I'm glad I ran out of wool or I would have had to think of something to put on the other wall.

I also got 1/2 way through building a giant statue but I figured the time would be better spent in the next arse world, so I'm ready for it :)

you got some creativity there, too, it's good!

however, as long as single player, check out the "better than wolves" mod.
Surprise, no sig. Now there is. Or is there?

Looks nice, but it seems I need a wolf to be able to get anywhere with it and I've only ever seen them once the whole time I've been playing the game.

EDIT: When it rains, it pours. After 5 in game days searching I started slaughtering every animal I came across then I found a couple packs of wolves close together. Got 7 of the fuckers now.
