and I agree with the decision

why

Cos there is someone performing better who can take his place. He doesnt deserve his spot so bye bye Ricky :)

After the test series I can see some justification to leave him in that form of the game but he's not doing much in the One day side so should make way for someone else

Fair enough - 3 pretty high quality inclusions there to!
So now we have:

Warner
Watson
Clarke
Forest
M Hussey
D Hussey
Wade
Harris
Hilfenhaus
Lee
Doherty

If Ponting has a sister, she must be getting nervous. :)

Will be interesting to see what they do with the batting line up now, can two blasters like Watson and Warner work as an opening pair?

On Ponting you can only assume that if he hasn't retired from ODI's that he thinks he can get back in the side.

He's having a press conference today so I assume he'll quite ODI's but they still want him for the longer game after his double ton so I reckon he'll stay in the running for those.

From the sounds of it not his decision to retire from ODI's, he's not 'part of the plan' for that side and he's been told he wont be selected in the future.....

He'll continue in Test cricket, and play more for Tassie

I just watched the press conference. Henry says it best here..

Geoff Lawson on Ponting: ''I thought the press conference was one of the most self-indulgent little pieces of self-interest I've seen for a long time. I listened very intently to it and there was a lot of 'I' … 'I this' and 'I that' and 'how I'm good for the team' and I'm really annoyed by it. Maybe Ricky needed it but I don't think the team needed it.''

Henry kind of missed the mark on this one I feel. Any elite sportsman thinks their shit don't stink and it's all about me. Some people can go about it in a nice fashion much like Gilly did and others are just direct.

Anyway they drop Ponting and we lose. No surprise as Sri Lanka are good atm so take nothing from them but Ponting seems to inspire the team even if he's batting isn't great.

Henry has a blue bias...wants Haddin in the side but says ponting has to go...

As far as Im concerned, right call by the selectors, his form was woeful but he will be hard to replace in the field.

Hes done enough to maintain his test spot for now..

Haddin - shit form cant even score runs in the domestic comp - so fair call too. No doubt as per a convo on the radio the other day Henry reckons he still our best keeper batsman...I think Wade and paine are both ahead of him...but they dont come from the land of blue...

I'd stick with Wade. Give him a chance. Haddin has had a good go but he's form is failing.

Oh and fuck the blues. There must be a hidden clause saying that X amount of the team must be blue. Some of the finest were great Victorians. Look at Warnie, Merv, Dino, Scoob, Bill Lawry, Keith Miller, Bill Ponsford. All fine Victorians and yet two more being Siddle and Pattinson should be in too. Just tape 'em up and give them a bex paper and they'll bowl all day

What a crap wy to lose the one day final...who made up that stupid bloody rule...

Well batted George ( another one of Geoffs targets) and well batted Punter...

fucking gutted about that. Probably cos I thought they reached the point where they would win it. Gotta feel for Faulkner but you gotta get bat on ball to score runs too.

Terrific partnership by Bailey and Ponting. So close to getting them home.

Lol at the abc website..Nathan Lyon starred with the ball taking 3 for 86...

86 from 10...hmmm not sure that's starring...that's being smashed...even with the 3 wickets..

Fancy that a one day and Ponting makes 75. I was hoping he'd make a few.

actually I thought he captained the side pretty well in the field.

I was hoping he might come in down the order on his return. Ego is probably too big for that though.

Good win. Puts us in to the finals.

The batting is going to have to improve if we're going to beat SL in the finals, still giving away silly wickets at the wrong times.

The tri series was great. So glad it's back although with 20-20 now it seems too much of the short form. Tests are still better.

Tassie and Qld in the shield final for next weekend. Bad luck for WA. I think they were top of the table going in to this game. Sux for them :D
