Yeah some maybe are a little slow to build up but what I find is that in the first 20 minutes, you know exactly who everyone is and what's going on. You won't need to watch it a 2nd or 3rd time because 5 minutes from the end you have a moment of 'oooohhhhh THATS what that thing/person/place was'. I like the older films because it's all laid out right there and you can then just get on with it.
I also tend to find (in general) the right actor is in the right role. They haven't shoehorned in Tom Cruise or Denzel Washington just because they're the big name they want in the film. It's an age when character actors were brought in for exactly the role that suited them.

That is so true. The Hollywood movie factory will think nothing of forcibly inserting somebody into a role that doesn't fit them because, you know, they've gotta give their mates the jobs...Big Kev wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 12:01 amI also tend to find (in general) the right actor is in the right role. I grant you, they didn't always get it right.

Not movie-related, but I've been rewatching NYPD Blue, which I really enjoyed in the past; and its been neat to spot all the actors having some of their first roles in minor parts.
I'm only up to season 3, but so far I've spotted Hank from Breaking Bad, Adam Goldberg, David Schwimmer, Joe Pantoliano, Spiros form season 2 of The Wire, Tuco from Breaking Bad, Skyler from Breaking Bad, Paul Giamatti (playing a homeless guy in just one scene) and the dude from Bosch.

I feel like norbs' journey through old films would make a great podcast.

YES! ....like.....subscribe....turn on notifications.....
Although I worry each episode would only be 5 seconds long.
This week my mate Durbs suggested Escape from Alcatraz. Bloody hell it was slow to start, but not bad. Join us next week for another review!
