I was having a day up in the Welsh mountains last week and while I was up there the air force decided to drop in...

Nope. Not too far away though. I'd like to go and do the mach loop at some point. Maybe I'll pencil it in for next year....

The two valleys in the pic are actually an L shape and while I was up there I heard a bit of a rumble in the background and turned round to see a hercules coming from the right. He then banked sharply and went off down the valley on the left of the shot. I could hear a small jet nearby too as it's so quiet and open there the sound really echoes around. About 15 mins later the little hawker trainer came through and he did again a little later. Unfortunately for all of those first shots I had a wide lens on for landscape pics so I didn't have much zoom. Just as I was deciding to head back down the hill I put my 24-105mm lens on for some slightly different shots and on the off chance one of the planes came back. Literally a few seconds after I'd clicked it in to the camera I hear the rumble again and leapt up to get the pics of the transporter almost at head height coming down the valley. It's a 90 degree corner so they got a hell of a bank on to get it round there. I made an animated gif out of the pics I took. The pilot turned in a bit early :)
