Re: Tour Down Under 2016
Don't stay at the Princes Lodge North Adelaide. Last time those suckers get my dough.
Do go for a ride up Norton Summit with Carlos.
Do take your rear derailer off the bike before it goes in the bike box.
Do say hi to the fat fuck in the floral shirts at the start line.
Do go to the ARSE Sunday night dinner.

Re: Tour Down Under 2016
Hopefully next year i'll be able to take the week off! (couldn't do that this year due to a change in jobs and no leave accrued ).
If you can stay in the CBD, then you'll be much more central to everything. North Adelaide would be a decent substitute since it's within easy walking distance. Both hills and beach are within 10km from there, should you find the urge to get out on the bike (alternatively, get into the TDU village early in the week and book some test rides on high end bikes.. and take someone else's bike for a spin!). Probably book your accommodation early, since I *think* most places get filled.
I guess whether it's "worth it" to stay the week depends on what you would like to get out of the trip, and possibly your budget Staying the week means you can follow the race around and get in a bit of riding yourself. Many of the course routes include loops, so you can park yourself someplace and watch the race unfold. Almost all of the stage starts are within easy riding distance of the CBD, the exception being the Saturday which goes up Willunga Hill. Even so, there's heaps of groups who ride out there.
Have a think about the Challenge Tour on the Friday. It's usually a popular event, and this year heads up Norton Summit, and end up in Victor Harbor If you get into Adelaide even earlier you could sign up for Ride Like Crazy on the first Sunday which is always a good ride through the Adelaide Hills.
This is the route for the Challenge Tour:
http://www.tourdownunder.com.au/en/the- ... es/stage-4
Info for Ride Like Crazy:
http://www.ridelikecrazy.com/
I *think* Port Adelaide CC will be doing Ozzy Cross again (TBC) so you can check that out prior to the last stage, and there may be another Roller Frenzy.... if riding bikes inside a pub and drinking beer are your thing The Santos Womens Tour is back, and there's usually criteriums going on elsewhere, plus street parties all over the place.
And as Norbs suggests.. a spin through the Adelaide Hills with fellow ARSEs is a must
that's a basic brain dump.. if you have specific questions, throw them out there and i'll do my best

My family has our annual holiday in Victor Harbor every year until the weekend before/of Australia Day (26th Jan); so I'll be in Victor Harbor for the finish of Stage 22 on the 23rd Jan'.

Re: Tour Down Under 2016
interesting to look at the rides of a pro in Adelaide
https://www.strava.com/pros/danilo_wyss
riding every day, very few rides under 100km, and 1000m+ of climbing every time. I especially liked the casual sub 14 minute Norton Summit effort at the end of one of the rides :/
Oh.. and I saw the Tinkoff squad out in the hills on Sunday, and part of the Lotto squad rolling around in the city at lunch just a few minutes ago

All I want is a sub 19 minute climb.
Oh, and I hope they clearly mark the start and end of the segment they intend to use.

You'd be all over this one Norbs!

i'm sure residents will be pretty happy that this is on the same day as the official NS TT. Looks like Norton Summit Road will be closed for most of the day!
