CPL Filter

Those who are in the know..

Hoya Pro 1Digital CPL(W) 77mm Filter

Anyone advise what the (W) stands for in the above description?

Looking for a CPL for my new lens...but unsure what thee w....means...

Actually have no idea... It's circular polarising... I can't see what else it could be doing. I'm going to have a wild stab in the dark here and guess that perhaps the W sands for wide... Perhaps suitable for wider angle lenses. ie. the filter is thinner in order to help it to avoid causing vignetting.


I may be way off though.

If I remember correctly from when I was on the hunt for a CPL a few years back it stands for Wideband, but if you research this in regards to circular polarisers it's more of a marketing term rather than any technical reason behind it, a bit like P.M.P.O. with stereo systems.

I always thought "w" was for warm.
