Handy programme from adding comments to EXIF data. It won't change "core date" so you can't cheat. But you can add coments about the shot and the name of the photograph.

I remember trying to understand the Hyperfocal Distance when I was a kid and when my dad tried to tell me what it was when I was about 18. Didn't get it on either occation. Yet today it seems simple as. I must be getting smarter in my old age.

I have been using that light painting technique for a while now. It gives you a nicer feel than a flash imho.

re: The Power of PS. You can do that in a dark room norbs. Even Robert Capra's 'omaha beach landing' was "developed" in a dark room. Note Pete Turner's image at the bottom of the page. No PS there.
re: Photographs that changed the world: I would disagree with Photo 10. Surrealism was on celluloid well before that image; we certainly see it in film, for example Un Chien Andlue (1929). I would agree with the rest of them however. Mind you I think we could add to them.

You keep banging on about it Nige, but you will never convince me. To do alot of what you say you can do in a darkroom would take years of training and alot of skill. And I dont care what you say, there is no way you can do the amount of things to one exposure in a darkroom that you can do in PS. If you looked at all those photos, you will see they have actually changed the image in quite a few of them, as well as changing colours. I would love to see you do that in a dark room. Just about any bastard can do it in PS.

Who said that photographers only used 1 exposure to create the final image ? Just because its now easier to do, and more people can do it (PS over Darkroom) should not lessen the fact that photography is about creating images. I go on about it primeraly because I think its important to remember that an image which is Photoshoped should not lessen or I should say cheapen the creation of the image. 99% of stuff that can be done in Photoshop can be done in a Darkroom; that includes using multiple exposures to archive a higher quality image. The biggest difference is that you have about 6 stops of exposure manipulation in Photoshop and about 3 stops in a Darkroom. This is tempered but the fact that film allows wider light range compared to digital. So even then it evens out. From memory its 5 stops from dark to light in Digital and about 11 or 12 in film. Humans have a range of about 50 stops.

So why does that matter? That its now possible for everyone to do what a few elite individuals used to do. Manipulate your photos to achieve an interesting outcome.

norbs youve gotta stop looking at photography as a simple recording of what happened. Its an art form and as such there are no rules. The snap of the shutter is the start not the end.
